Is there another major rail merger in the works? - rail works

Today it was announced that billionaire investor Warren Buffett owns a large part of the BNSF. He also said that the NA has two railroads, but did not say. Other railroads that would be a good investment, strictly from the perspective of the economy. What about a merger or NS CSX railroad merger with another co.? Who cares to guess what are the other two companies buffet: Perhaps CN Rail?

I think another big merger unlikely by two railroads.

Mergers tacit approval last twelve or fifteen years, partly because the number of giants after the merger is still the number five. This number does not point to something near monopoly.

But with the theoretically possible merger could reduce, if implemented, the number to three. Then the other two have an argument in favor of the merger on competition grounds. They now have two airlines. This is bad news.

If you are an investment, the railway can achieve much better returns, you can load to buy a car and put into operation. It is not impossible. Most people can get a car loan with a $ 20 million. Get five of them and intermodal buy a flat or funnel. Despite an expected high-risk investment that is more secure than a company in the stock market on the promise of the merger is.

As a perfect example of the proposed merger between Southern Pacific and Santa Fe in the late 70s. LocomotiveIves appeared shortly after the announced merger of a war between the yellow and red "Hood" with paint filled with black letters on the side of SPSF. It was a "fait accompli".

Then suddenly he was not. We joked that SPSF represented "(S) have houldn't (P) is not ast (S) or (F).

This question was discussed by the journal of the trains, a few years ago. And many of you have not mentioned, the Canadian Railway (CP Rail and Canadian National) and KCS.

The merger would likely BNSF + NS
with other UP + CSXT

The railway station has Candian swallowed recenlty much and is the primary monitor. The ICRR acquired DM & IRR, and much more in the last 2-8 years.

Although KCS point may be low if the takeover / merger with the TFM. This opened the door to Mexico.

x2 + + NS BNSF CSXT and UP

The problem is that we have talked about the merging of the past ... 3 years or more? does not go in to give a lecture on the subject, but NS and BNSF is a lot of money seems to buy the best one.

In addition, Warren E. Buffett owns most of the BNSF Railway, 10.9%
BNSF is not no control.

For years, rumors flew east / west rail mergers. Most of them are to be merged with the Union Pacific, CSX and BNSF to merge with the NS. It would be from the perspective of the transportation system as well as calls logically from one end to the merger. But who knows what check to Wall Street and the federation.
Oh, IIRC major shareholders are mentioned in the reports must be filed with the SEC, no one can "own secret" of a listed company.
